EU Project

Cracow University of Technology and OptiNav Sp. z o. o. implements a project under Measure 1.1 of the Smart Growth Operational Program 2014-2020 co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the name: “Phantom for operational tests of radiotherapy devices in teleradiotherapy.” under the co-financing agreement No. POIR.04.01.04-00-0014/16.

Project description: As a result of the project, the following will be designed:

  • a phantom for testing the geometry of components of conventional medical linear accelerators and conventional therapeutic simulators
  • IT system that evaluates the geometry of components of conventional medical linear accelerators and conventional therapeutic simulators on the basis of phantom projection images
  • mechatronic system supporting the recalibration of components of conventional medical linear accelerators
  • conventional therapeutic simulators in order to improve the precision of designed therapeutic plans.

All units conducting radiotherapy in the treatment of oncological diseases are obliged by law to conduct regular operational tests of the above-mentioned devices.

Objectives of the project: The aim of the project is to design and build a phantom with the use of which it will be possible to precisely and automatically determine the geometry of conventional medical linear accelerators and medical therapeutic simulators used in the treatment of cancer. As a result of the project, an IT system will also be created to analyse the image data of the phantom obtained during operational tests and to design operational tests with a given accuracy.

Planned effects: As a result of the project, an IT solution will be developed to support the treatment of oncological diseases based on computer simulations and image data analysis at the stage of planning and conducting therapy. Innovative devices and a computer system will also be created to support medical therapy, aimed at improving the effectiveness of therapy and reducing the side effects of therapy, as well as reducing the cost of therapy.

The total value of the project: 3 280 745,25 PLN

Contribution of European Funds: 1 538 836,00 PLN
